Common Name: zigzag bamboo, ruscus bamboo
Origin/Ecology: Native to China
Habit: running bamboo with rhizomes. Short, to 4′ tall.
Leaves: Elliptic with light green/white tips. Clean leaves, hair on back prevents bamboo mite. Leaf sheath doesn’t allow shelter for pests.
Leaf Arrangement: alternate
Flowers and Fruit: Fruit insignificant, grain (caryopsis).
Bark: Showy, smooth, multi-stem, green.
Water Use, Soil: Humus rich, well-drained, moderate water use.
Exposure: Filtered shade to full sun.
Landscape Uses: Accent plant, container planting, filler, ground cover, group or mass planting, mixed shrub border, specimen, wetland.
Limitations: Rust, slugs or snails, fungal leaf spot, mites.
