Common Name: hinoki false cypress
Origin/Ecology: Native to central Japan.
Habit: Slow growing tree. Grows to 35 m tall.
Leaves: Scale-like leaves, 2-4 mm long, blunt tipped, green above and below with a white stomatal band at the base of each scale. Fan-shaped foliage sprays.
Leaf Arrangement: Opposite
Flowers and Fruit: Cones are globose (ball-shaped), 8-12 mm diameter, with 8-12 scales arranged in opposite pairs,
Bark: dark red-brown
Water Use, Soil: Drought tolerant
Exposure: Shade tolerant
Landscape Uses: Ornamental for parks and gardens.
Limitations: Not tolerant of poor drainage
